How to make Chow Mein Recipe

This is Chow Mein recipe. Chow Mein is a popular noodle dish made with stir fried noodles, vegetables and meat in soy sauce based gravy. It originated in China but now it has become one of the favorite dishes among Indians as well. Chow Mein can be served as a starter or like any other main course for lunch/dinner.

The Chow Mein I am going to share today is mainly of 2 types Vegetable Chowmein and Chicken Chowmein; however you may add any of your choice depending on your mood / taste buds. Here we go:


1. Fresh & Canned green peas – 1 cup (boiled and chopped) 2 cups (boiled and sliced)

2. Chow Mein / Chow Main Noodles – 1 packet (250 gms) 3 packets

3. Onion – ¼ cup, chopped 2 cups, cut into thin long strips

4. Ginger Garlic Paste – ½ tbsp 1 tbsp

5. Soya Sauce : 2 tsp 2 tbsp

6. Chilli Sauce: 1 tablespoons or 2 tablespoons of Chilli sauce of your choice

7. Mushrooms – 100 grams 250 grams 500 grams 750gm of Mushrooms Cut it in slivers of your choice 4 cups 5-6 cups 6-7 cups 8-9 cups

8. Spring Onion whites – 1 cup chopped 2 ½ cup chopped 4-5 cup chopped 6-7 cup chopped

9. Ready Chow Mein Noodles : 3-4 packets 5 packets 6 packets

10. Salt to taste according to your taste

11. Oil for frying the Chow Mein Noodles

12. Water 2 cups of water ½ cup of water ¼ cup of water (to be added with soya sauce) just enough to boil the noodles

13. Tomato Ketchup

14. Sugar

15. Corn flour

Chow Mein

Method: Chow Mein Recipe (Vegetable Chow Mein Recipe)

1. Prepare Chow Main noodles as mentioned in the package instructions or as you like it. Once done, drain out the water and keep aside.

2. Heat around 4-5 tablespoons of oil in a wok or pan on medium flame

3. Add both the spring onions whites and sauté for 5 seconds

4. Now add ginger garlic paste and cook constantly stirring constantly for 10 seconds

5. Add onion slices and fry until golden color appears on them

6. Put green peas, soy sauce, chilli sauce, vinegar, sugar, salt to taste & stir delicately so that there are no lumps formed

7. Now put ready Chow Mein noodles and stir nicely to coat Chow Main noodles in the sauce

8. Add spring onion greens and corn flour mixed water and cook till Chow Main noodles & veggies are done

9. Chow Mein Vegetable recipe is ready to serve hot Chow Mein

10. Serve hot Chow Mein with tomato ketchup, chilly sauce or anything of your choice

How To Make Chicken Chow Mein Recipe (Chicken Chowmein Recipe) 1. Prepare Chow Main Noodles as mentioned in the package instructions or as you like it 2. Take a wide bowl add soya sauce, chilli sauce, vinegar, sugar & salt to taste; mix thoroughly 3. Now put chicken pieces in this mixture and coat well all over them 4. Leave it marinate for 15 minutes 5. Now heat around 4-5 tablespoons of oil or ghee (clarified butter) in a wok or pan on medium flame 6. Add marinated chicken pieces and stir delicately to coat Chow Mein noodles for 2-3 minutes 7. Once Chow Mein Noodles are half done 8. Now add spring onion whites (white portion only); mix well 9. Add fried Chow Main noodles & veggies 10. Cook for 1-2 minutes 11. Chowmein with Chicken is ready to serve hot 12 . Serve hot Chow Mein with tomato ketchup, chilly sauce or anything of your choice
